The 'Alsace' glass has been inspired from my own origins. But where does the traditional alsatian white wine glass come from?
In the XVIth Century, the glass factories from the Rhine valley (Germany and Netherlands) were producing the 'Roemer glass' which was exclusively used for the white wine that was produced in the same region. The potash wich was included in the chemical composition for this glass brought a greenish coloration, used in particular to cover up the deposits which were present in the wine at this time. That color was kept here, now only on the leg and foot of this wine glass. |
